Bootcamp Comps

The Hypothesis:

• How might we be able to help people looking into UX Bootcamps?

Interesting Tidbits:

• Avoacademy partners with a design agency to get work for their students.

  • The ironic insight is that the founder of Avoacademy is also the founder of the studio itself.

  • The studio’s careers page is nonexistent

    • Many of it’s ‘employees’ on LinkedIn are nowhere to be referenced on it’s home page & have the ‘open to work’ frame which indicates something.

      

    

• General Assembly outcome report is 2 years outdated (2020), no other outcome report has been found
  • GA purports 95.2% placement rate
    • 95.2% is divided into 2 different sections
      • 69.1% within 180 days of graduation
      • 26.1% after 180 days of graduation

        • These statistics are even further divided

          • Based upon whether or not a person is looking full time or part time for a job
          • Based upon using GA’s career services

          

• CareerFoundry states that students will receive a 100% tuition refund IF they don’t find a job in their field within 6 months

  • CF boasts a 91.77% job placement rate but once you dig into the specifics 👇🏽the numbers get a little bit funkier.
    • For the table above, I am only looking at full-time job placement, because that’s essentially everyone’s goal at the end of the day.

  

• Designlab is not able to give out exact percentages on their job placement rate due to the self-reported nature & how they are still in process of getting certified.

  • Many of their numbers are outdated due to being from 2019.

  

• The Flatiron School is so far the only school that has the most updated jobs report, coming from 2021.

  • Flatiron also splits it’s numbers for its programs based on campus & whether it was in-person or online.

    

    

    

    • Springboard uses statistics from 2019 through November 2021 which may skew its outcome report a bit.

      • They purport a Job Placement rate of 79% within 6 months, however, what springboard quantifies as a ‘qualifying position’ may range from an Internship to contracting roles.

      

      

      • Memorisely a new online BootCamp that encourages figma mastery.
        • Not a lot of information on specific statistics because it is new but it seems they sometimes hire their own graduates to teach new students based on LinkedIn profiles.

    • **Thinkful** is a online BootCamp that allows students to be job ready within 6months.

      • I have not found ANY outcome reports that pertain to their UX Design program, however they do have outcome reports (with stats from 2019) for their other programs such as Data Science, Software Engineering etc.
      • For their UX Design program it seems as though they want you to know how much it’ll cost and how quickly you will learn everything about design.
        • You can only view their course syllabus - AFTER subscribing to their newsletter which is Dark UX patterns.

      

      

    • Ironhack is a BootCamp that is mainly based in Spain or Amsterdam but they have offices in Miami as well.

      • They claim you can become a designer with a few weeks

      

      • One thing I’ve noticed is that the companies that they claim to partner with (alongside the ppl those partnerships are with) it seems a lot of them are very outdated, going from 2016-2018 based on a few profiles I’ve searched.
